Money-saving cooking with Destitute Gourmet
Sophie Gray's Destitute Gourmet is a cooking resource for ordinary people with regular incomes, fussy kids and busy lives, who love good food.
Sophie Gray's recipe books are based on the Destitute Gourmet philosophy, which is to "Shop Smart", "Eat Healthily and in Season" and "Make a Little of Something go a Long Way".
The destitute gourmet approach to cooking will save you money. Not only are they meals that are easy to prepare and tasty for both adults and kids, you will also spend less on grocery shopping.
Why we like Sophie Gray's Destitute Gourmet books
Destitute Gourmet was the first book by a New Zealand chef that we bought after settling in New Zealand. We found it to be an excellent resource for migrant home cooks, not only because it helped us to understand New Zealand's ingredients and measures, but also because it helped us work out what we can expect to pay for food, and how not to pay too much. We have added two books to our Destitute Gourmet collection, and use all three frequently.
Another great resource from Sophie Gray is her Destitute Gourmet website and forum: www.destitutegourmet.com.
